Dickson Converts Lodge to Hotel

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has converted the Governor's Lodge into a hotel to generate revenue for the state. Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Investment, Cyril Akika, who disclosed this to newsmen in Yenagoa, said N2.8 billion has been set aside to fully transform the lodge into a world class hotel with 18 presidential suites. He said the hotel will be part of the tourism island, adding that a master plan to encourage tourists and investors to come to the state and invest is in the works.

Akika, who said an international hotel development group has already won contract for the hotel project and other allied facilities to realize the initiative, added that the island would incorporate sporting facilities like polo, golf and football.

In a related development, the state government is embarking on a 200 bed 5-star hotel that is expected to be completed within the next 11 months at the cost of N3.5 billion.

The project which is situated within the precincts of the Ox bow lake in the state capital is being handled by the Anyiam Osigwe Group in conjunction with foreign technical partners.

Spokesman of the construction company, Mr Chris Adigwe, said materials for the construction are being imported except sand, water, stone and cement.
